Kits News - 9th December 2022
This week the Kits have continued with their Christmas preparations. We have made Christmas wreaths with playdough and gems and developed our writing skills as we have written Christmas cards for our friends and family.
Our role-play area this week has been set up as ‘Father Christmas’s Workshop’ and the children have been busy decorating the Christmas tree and pretending to wrap presents for Father Christmas to take to all the children. Wrapping the presents supports the children’s fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination and they learn new skills such as how to use tape and scissors.
On Thursday we made festive sugar free gingerbread men. We talked about the different ingredients and the children loved getting their hands messy as we mixed the flour, honey, butter, eggs and ginger together to make a dough. Once the dough was ready the children took it in turns to use the cutters and cut out their gingerbread men biscuits. They smelt delicious while cooking and everyone was very excited to take them home at the end of the day!
On Wednesdays Coach Pedro comes to visit 345 Nursery and hosts our Sports sessions. During Sports the children develop their gross motor skills as they run around obstacle courses and throw and kick balls. Sports also supports the development of the children’s listening and attention skills as they follow Coach Pedro’s instructions to move in a variety of different ways such as running, jumping, crawling and walking backwards. They also develop their Maths skills as they run around the hall picking up cones and sorting them by colour. This week Coach brought racquets to the session too and the Kits used them to hit the small soft balls. They needed a bit of support to hit the balls back to their teachers but had great fun practising their under and overarm shots.
