Squirrels News - 14th February 2025
Around the classroom this week the marble run was extremely popular as was the safari set up. The children worked nicely together to build individual and joint runs as they shared the pieces. Over at the safari table the children had great fun animal spotting. We have been practicing our hand eye coordination balancing blocks and giving ladybirds their spots depending on which number was rolled on the dice.
One of our Focus Time highlights from the week was when we looked at number lines, counted to 20, identified missing numbers in the number line then created our own number lines. It was a lovely lesson with the children really getting the meaning of learning. Many said they found numbers tricky to write but the whole class joined together as they all agreed it was ok because we are learning and practicing. It was truly wonderful to see how proud they all were of their work and not afraid to give it a go. Another lovely Focus Time of the week was to think about choices we make every day and their consequences these have on our feelings and those of others.
Later in the week in preparation for our Art exhibition the children made flapjacks to share with their friends and grown ups during the event. Finally, when Friday came we had a fantastic day.
It started with us taking a trip to the Midnight Gallery on Ritherdon Road where we met the artist of all the work in the gallery. We got to ask questions about his work and we even got to watch him draw and bestow some of his art knowledge such as how to incorporate perspective into a picture.
He was so kind and even gave all of the children a book he had written and illustrated when we left. After that it was time to visit the tube station again and speak to a member of staff who explained to us how to stay safe on the tube in preparation for our school trip to the Polka Theatre. After this it was time for the highlight of not only the week but the half term - the Squirrels’ art exhibition! It was wonderful being able to finally exhibit and show off all of the Squirrels’ wonderful masterpieces and the hard work they had put into their art. Great work this half term Squirrels!
