Squirrels News - 29th November 2024

In class the children have been in full elf mode, preparing various surprise presents for their Mummy’s and Daddy’s. The children have also explored the jungle in our Role Play area where they came across various animals and learnt about them in the books on display. The Squirrels class love animals so it has been an extremely busy and engaging Role Play Area! This week we have also been practising writing our name and numbers. We developed our bat and ball skills with the tennis rackets and have been working on adding detail to our pictures.

As Christmas creeps up on us the Squirrels have been getting into character for the Nativity performance and have been rehearsing daily for the big show in a couple of weeks time. The children are doing very well at remembering the songs and we even treated the people of Balham to our wonderful nativity tunes as we walked to and from the common.

As it was our last Outdoor Learning Day of 2024 we went in search of Santa’s helper the Gingerbread Man who had run off with some of Santa's gingerbread dough. We thought we might find Santa himself but were rightly informed by some of the children that Santa was very busy preparing presents so would be unable to make it to the common! The children found the Gingerbread Man hiding in various places amongst the trees and foliage before they were finally able to ask him why he had taken some of Santa's dough without asking. It turned out that the Gingerbread Man had wanted the dough to build a house of his own. We all agreed Santa would have been happy to give the Gingerbread Man some dough but that it is important to ask. As a thank you for helping the Gingerbread Man build his house he gave all of the children some sugar free hot chocolate and a mini gingerbread person.
