Squirrels News - 2nd December 2022

There has been an exciting buzz in the classroom this week as the children have become aware of the imminent end of November and the start of December which means "advent calendars!"

As the end of the year is fast approaching we have been taking every opportunity to practice our Nativity Play. We are so proud of all of the children who are singing well and remembering their lines.

In Art we have been making lots of wonderful goodies for the festive period but "sh" we can not say too much about that, as we do not want to spoil the surprise! Elsewhere around the classroom we have been fishing for letters amongst shimmering sand and developing the muscles in our hands using pipettes and syringes. These instruments can be quite challenging to operate but it was great to see the children’s focus and perseverance.

Over in the Role Play Area we have been enjoying manicures and having our hair styled in the hairdressers. iIt has been a bit hit with everyone wanting to be involved in some way, be it shampooing, brushing or blow drying.

This week it was our turn to go to the library where the children were really encouraged to think about the books they were checking out and to think about what made them choose that book over all the others. We are encouraging the children to think about their choices and not just simply pick up the first book they see.

In Sport we developed our ball skills, kicking and throwing and in Dance we went on a wonderful adventure to search for lots of different animals as we practised how to hold our bodies. We recapped half past and o'clock as well as concentrating on our phonics where we learnt a few more of the digraphs.

When the 1st of December came around the children were so excited to find decorations and a tree in the classroom which they could decorate. We put on some Christmas tunes and everyone discussed their advent calendars before we opened the first door in our class advent calendar which revealed a book.

On out Outdoor Learning Day we had a wonderful time as we made Christmas wreaths using leaves we found fallen off of the trees. The children loved looking at the various patterns on the leaves and they ripped, tore and stuck their findings on their wreath to take home to hang on their doors.
