Kits News - March 11th 2022

The Kits have had a great week this week. Our topic books have been Please Mr Panda and Thank you Mr Panda by Steve Antony. They have been a great platform to help teach the children about manners and we have also reflected on our Classroom Principles and in particular the importance of Kind Hearts’.

In addition to learning about ‘Please’ and ‘Thank you’ we have also explored monochrome pictures and created wonderful black and white paintings and collages in Art.

The children have also loved exploring our ‘Story Basket’ which related to the books. We all had a turn at passing the toy doughnut around the circle as well as placing the panda ears on our heads. In our Literacy Focus Time, we learnt about the ‘P’ phoneme and linked it to ‘Please Mr Panda’ as well as recognising that some of the children’s names start with ‘P’.

Our Role Play Area has been set up as a spaceship and the children have been busy jumping on board the space hip and flying to the different planets in our solar system. It has been a great opportunity to introduce new vocabulary to the children and they have been excited to tell us about their journeys to Mars and Earth.

The children all helped create the Role Play Area scene the week before and have been busy painting planets and sticking stars on the black space background. They have also developed their drawing skills by drawing star charts and have extended their imagination by using the computer “to fix the rocket.”

We continued with our monochrome theme in Cookery where we made ‘Cheesy Seeded Biscuits’. The children loved getting their hands messy as they rubbed the butter and flour together and developed their hand strength as they moulded the dough into a variety of different shapes. We decorated the pastry with a selection of different seeds and discussed their names, colours and where they come from.
