It has been another exciting week as we prepared for ‘Bring Mummy to School Day.’ To coincide with the celebrations, we chose the topic book Why I Love my Mummy by Daniel Howarth.

This lovely story explores the various reasons we love our Mummy’s ranging from “because they hold my hand” to “because they give me a bath.” We used the sentence structure of the book to think of our own example sand reasons why we love our Mummy’s.

Everyone had lots of wonderful reason which they enjoyed sharing with the group. We have started to write these reasons down to create our very own book which we are both the author and illustrator of! We have been thinking about the reason why there is a blurb on the back of many books and decided that we too, wanted to create a blurb on our books to entice the reader.

The children have been putting a lot of time and effort into their books as we have been discussing how long it takes to create a book and all the hard work which goes into creating all the lovely books in the shops. The creation of our books has led to a great learning opportunity about the differences between fiction and non-fiction books and what these terms mean. The creation of these books has been a wonderful project for the children to really develop their own ideas over the course of the week and it has been lovely to see the dedication, care and time everyone has put into their work.

In Art, we have expanded on our theme by painting portraits of our Mummy’s and thinking about all the details we needed to include. We thought about what colour eyes they have, how they wear their hair and whether we needed to include a big happy smile!

The children worked extremely hard on their portraits and were delighted to present them to their Mummy’s on ‘Bring Mummy to School Day.’ When the day arrived, there was lots of excitement. The children were keen to share our classroom. The children were able to create wonderful Easter Bonnets with their Mummy’s before playing and then finishing the morning with a singing session and our story of the week. It was a lovely morning, and we can’t wait to welcome you in again!
