Kits News - 20th May 2022

The Kits had a great week this week and the highlight was most definitely our trip to the Tooting Bec Fire Station.

We are very grateful to the amazing Fire Fighters who spared their time to show us around the Fire Station and it was definitely a memorable experience for everyone.

We learnt about how their call centre works and what tools they use and the children were very excited to see them slide down the pole! However, the highlight of the day was definitely when the children had the opportunity to fire water out of the hose.

The children all waited patiently for their turn and listened carefully to the Fire Fighter’s instructions to pull the leaver back. Building up to our visit we have been getting ready for our trip by pretending to be fire fighters in our role play area and re-enacting rescue scenes with the small world people.

We also used the spray bottles to put out various fires drawn on the wall in the Outdoor Learning Environment, pretending to ‘save the day’ and developing our hand strength at the same time.

As well as getting ready for our Fire Station trip, this week we have also been learning about rhyming words with our topic book ‘The Cat Sat on the Mat’.

The children have loved exploring the small toys in our rhyming boxes and we have played with them in the sand and continued exploring them during Circle Time. The children have had great fun making up silly rhymes with the objects and finding words which rhyme with their names.

To culminate our very busy week, we made salt dough cats during our Fine Motor Skills Focus Time on Friday and we look forward to painting them and putting them on ‘a mat’ next week!
