Squirrels News - 20th May 2022
To celebrate the final week of our Artists topic we focused on the work of Paul Klee. We found out that he was a Swiss-German artist born in 1940 and that he is famous for a style of work called cubism.
In Art, we took inspiration from Paul Klee’s techniques by creating beautiful pieces of work using tape resist. The children had to put masking tape across a piece of card which created sections for the children to paint in. We used only primary colours and the children used these to experiment with what colours they could create by mixing them together. Once the paint had dried the children carefully removed the masking tape to reveal the wonderful shapes of their unique artwork.
In Literacy this week we created tickets to welcome parents into our art exhibition which will be opening next week. At the exhibition we will be showcasing all of the work that we have created over the past few weeks. The children are getting extremely excited to show off all their hard work and we can’t wait to be able to present all of their amazing pieces!
To celebrate our Artists topic we took the Squirrels on a very special trip to Dulwich Picture Gallery. We were all very excited to get on a coach where we joined 345 Wandsworth to head off on our adventure. When we arrived at the gallery, we were greeted by a storyteller who took us around the gallery on a tour. He stopped at two specific pictures and proceeded to tell us all about the works and how they were created.
He brought these pictures to life through musical instruments, song, puppets and audience participation. The children absolutely loved it! Having had a wonderful time at the gallery it was time to jump back on the coach and head back to nursery.
We have had a brilliant three weeks learning all about a range of artists and it has been wonderful to see the children become so inspired by art and the different art techniques we have been exploring. We can’t wait for next week when we get to show off all our hard work at the grand opening of our art exhibition!
