Kits News - 27th May 2022

The Kits have had a great week this week and we have thoroughly enjoyed getting ready for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Our role-play area has been set up as a ‘Royal Kitchen’ and the children have been busy making banquets fit for a Queen.

During our Maths Focus Time, we learnt about colour, shape and symmetry as we made our own Union Jack flags. Some of our older Kits concentrated very hard to match the red lines and blue triangles to those on the picture of the flag and made some amazingly accurate representations. The children have taken real interest in the flags around the classroom, and they have quickly learnt which flags belong to which country.

In Art we made our own royal crowns, and the children were all very excited and proud to wear them during our ‘Jubilee Tea Party’ on Friday. We have also been decorating crowns with stickers to develop the children’s fine motor skills as they peel and stick the small dots and stars.

In preparation for our class Jubilee party we made sugar free biscuits during our Cookery Focus Time on Thursday. The children loved getting their hands messy as we rubbed the ingredients together and everyone enjoyed eating them the next day!

After our Jubilee Tea Party, we had a mini disco and the children danced to their favourite songs. All the children love dancing to the music, and they are developing their concentration and listening skills as they follow the instructions of when to stop and go.

At the end of the week, we also had our annual ‘Scavenger Hunt’ in aid of the charity ‘Ella’s’. In line with the week’s royal theme, we pretended to that someone had stolen the Queen’s Crown Jewels! We then had to work as a team to hunt around the building and put them back in her treasure box. The children were very excited to find the jewellery scattered around and had fun wearing it too!
