Kits News - 27th January 2023

This week week the Kits have been focusing on learning about our Classroom Principles: ‘Gentle Hands’, ‘Walking Feet’, ‘Listening Ears’, ‘Kind Hearts’ and ‘Taking Turns’. To support our learning we chose the topic books Listening Time by Elizabeth Verdick and I Like to be Kind by Campbell Books

We have been engaging in activities around these principles throughout the week and they set the behavioural expectations of the children in the classroom. In Art we made ‘Kind Heart’ collages with paint and DT materials and added photos of our friends who we discussed being kind to.

We have been busy putting ‘Kind Hearts’ to practise while looking after the dolls in our role-play area, which has been set up as ‘St George’s Baby Hospital’. The children have been administering medicine, applying bandages and carefully putting the babies to sleep for a rest. This role-play has encouraged interaction between the children and supported the development of their friendships as well as their Communication and Language skills as they discuss what medical attention their babies need.

It has been a cold week but we have had great fun keeping warm and using our ‘Listening Ears’ to dance to music in the Outdoor Learning Environment. The cold weather has also added a new twist to our messy play activities as the shaving foam started to freeze outside and the children could really pretend that their cars were stuck in the snow!

At the end of the week we focused on learning about ‘Walking Feet’. We encourage the children to use their ‘Walking Feet’ in the classroom to avoid them from bumping into things and hurting themselves. To help them understand what ‘Walking Feet’ were we made footprints in the Outdoor Learning Environment. With their shoes on, each child placed their feet in a tray of talcum powder and then watched as they walked slowly along the black paper and left their ‘Walking Feet’ footprints behind. Well done Kits for using your ‘Walking Feet’!
