Kits News - March 4th 2022
This week the Kits have been celebrating World Book Day. We have loved reading everyone’s favourite books from home throughout the week and it has been wonderful to read some new texts as well as revisiting classic tales. We have been reading books in the Outdoor Learning Environment as well as in the classroom and we’ve been looking at counting books too to extend our Maths skills.
The highlight of the week was ‘our World Book Day’ celebrations. We absolutely loved seeing all the children’s fancy dress costumes and the teachers enjoyed joining in with the dressing up too! During the day we talked about our favourite books, discussing the characters and main events. The children all patiently listened to each other and, with support, started to ask each other questions too.
Our Role Play Area has been set up as a ‘Shoe Shop’ this week and the children have loved wearing a variety of different footwear. The ‘Shoe Shop’ not only supported the children’s personal, social and emotional development by encouraging them to play together, buying and selling shoes but also developed their self-care skills as they learnt to take the shoes on and off by themselves.
During the week the children have loved engaging in water play. They engaged in small world play with the sea creatures, water ice and bubbles and in Science the following day we explored chromatography. The children all used felt tip pens to colour in their jelly fish, whose tentacles were made from strips of coffee filter. Once coloured, the jelly fish dangled their tentacles in some water and the children watched with amazement as the colours from the felt tips separated out and spread with the water. It was a great activity to make predictions about what was going to happen next and also continued to develop the children’s understanding of how colours mix to make other colours which extended on from our topic book last week.
