Squirrels News - 17th January 2025

This week we have begun our Artist’s topic by learning about the life and work of Andy Warhol. The children have loved exploring his colourful work and as we will be using watercolours to recreate some of his art styles the children have been learning how to use these types of paints to make sure they are not too watery and that the palette is clean. We have been discussing our feelings and looking at pictures of different people, trying to work out how they feel and why they might feel that way. In Music we have started to learn how to play a tune using the bells. We have been discussing various mediums of art ad how art is not just using paint and a paint brush.

On our Outdoor Learning Day we recapped how our bodies keep warm as our heart beats faster and pumps the blood around our bodies. We also continued our discussions around ‘for let, rent and sale’ signs. We had questions about the evergreen foliage and why there are bumps on the pavement before official crossing spots. We saw the English flag and discussed its differences to the Union Jack as well as seeing some of the first signs of Spring. We noticed some daffodils, crocuses and even spotted a tree with the beginnings of blossom on some of its branches. Once we got to the common, we enjoyed our snack before taking part in our Focus Time activity which centred on the idea that we can create art anywhere, using anything. We started by clearing a space and used sticks to make mud pictures. We then used natural objects to make pictures before have a good old run around, playing hide and seek, chase and even digging for treasure!
