Our Topic Book this week was Mixed by Arree Chung. This is a truly wonderful book which depicts the importance of integration and acceptance through the use of the primary colours. These colours all live in mixed harmony until one day an argument leads to the colour groups segregating themselves in the belief that they are superior to all of the other colours. Then one day by chance two of the different colours become friends. Eventually they get married and have a baby named green. After this the walls come down between the primary colours and they all start to mix. This book opened up all sorts of discussions about ethnicity, beliefs and friendships. In Art this week the children created their own mixed town as they explored colour mixing. In the Role Play area we had a home corner with an open-door policy where everyone was welcome.

In Focus Time this week we worked on number recognition, letter formation and our weekend news. We also reflected on our topic book and everyone has been thinking of the different people their families are made up of. The children had a wonderful time discussing their families and drew some beautiful family portraits.

In Music we are in full swing learning our songs for our leavers concert. We cannot believe how close it is! The children are doing extremely well, and we are sure they will put on a wonderful performance.

When Friday came around it was time for our weekly Outdoor Learning Day. This week we continued to practise for our Sports Day races as well as working on writing our initial letter sound using whiteboards and pens. We are also currently raising money for the Mission Air Ambulance Fundraiser for Children’s Air Ambulance. To do this we are completing a sponsored half marathon walk across the half term and are now so close to our goal with next week being the final push before half term. It was another glorious day and we had a wonderful time out amongst nature.
