Squirrels News - 21st October 2022

This week we have been learning all about Diwali. To support our learning we chose the topic book Diwali by Hannah Eliot. This was a wonderful book which explained why and how communities celebrate Diwali and it offered a great platform to discuss the different celebrations and festivals we have within our own families and communities at home.

We continued our Diwali celebrations across all areas of our learning this week and our Role Play Area was transformed into a home during the Diwali celebrations with wonderful rangoli patterns, beautiful fabrics and plenty of Diya's as well as yummy food. In Art we created our own individual rangoli patterns using various 2D shapes and as a class we decorated a rangoli pattern to go outside of our classroom, welcoming those who enter and bringing good luck to all of us.

Around our classroom the children have enjoyed taking part in deconstruction activities, using screwdrivers and pliers to take apart various electrical equipment. Deconstructions activities are a brilliant way for the children to extend their independence and understanding of how things work. We also washed coins in water, decorated rangoli patterns using buttons and jade had a wonderful time constructing a marble run, working together as a team to connect the pieces.

To finish our week we explored a few more books, learning more about Diwali as well as practising our letter sounds and numeral, quantity correspondence. We hope you have a wonderful half term and happy Diwali for the 22nd October!
