Squirrels News - 23rd June 2023
This week has been all about exercise as we have been gearing up for Sports Day. The Role Play area was transformed into a gym which saw the children developing their hand muscles using the step, lifting child friendly weights and attempting various yoga poses. The children became extremely dedicated to their exercise in the gym, most returning everyday. The children were able to identify that exercise makes them strong as well as discussing the need to stay hydrated when you exercise. After the children's workout we discussed the physical effects (aside from getting strong) which exercise has on our bodies such as becoming sweaty, hot, thirsty and tired. Our topic book this week to complement our theme was called I Really want to Win! and this was a brilliant aid to explore other elements of competition which are important. We discussed that f we only ever focus on winning we can sometimes forget to have fun and if someone else wins then it is good to congratulate them and say well done as athletes normally do.
Around the classroom we raced our windup toys to see who would win. In other areas of learning, the children have worked wonderfully together to build a train track, enjoyed creating emotion faces out of playdough, taken an interest in writing words copied from a book. They have also played various Maths games which have encouraged their ability to share and take turns.
This week we have have also been practicing for our Leavers Concert and it has been wonderful to witness the children’s confidence growing the more they are on stage.
When Thursday rolled around it was finally time for our Sports Day where we completed an obstacle race as well as various others before we took part in our special relay races. After the excitement of Sports Day it was time for our Outdoor Learning Day The children did extremely well as they were asked to collect natural objects depicting something they like about 345. Some children created their friends or teacher. Others created a tree to symbolise our Outdoor Learning Days, commenting that was an Oaktree because that was what the Nursery was called when they started. We also had a child who created their tray because it is where they put all of their work and where get their pens from.
We were incredibly impressed with how well the Squirrels did with creating their pictures. Well done everyone! We look forward to welcoming you all back next week.
