Kits News - 23rd June 2023

The Kits have had a wonderful week this week and the highlight was most definitely our annual Sports Day on Wandsworth Common! The children had been practising hard throughout the week and it was wonderful to see so many parents join us on the day.

In their groups the children took part in a running race, a hat race, potato and spoon race and a bean bag throw. We also participated in relay races based around the Kits and Squirrels topics this term. We ‘dressed the King’ in his clothes, stuck pictures of fruit to our photos to resemble Rene Magritte’s art, gave the dogs different things they need to keep healthy and finally threw water at some ‘burning buildings’ to put the fire out. It was great fun and the best bit was the delicious cool ice lolly at the end and laughing as our Mummies and Daddies took part in the ‘Visitors’ Races’.

Throughout the week we have been practising and preparing for Sports Day and engaging in lots of other sport focused activities such as throwing the balls through the hoops and throwing the scarves from the top of the climbing frame. We have been active in our Art activities this week too as we developed our arm strength through marble painting. The children placed the marble in the paint and then rolled it back and forth in the tray, leaving a pretty pattern over the paper. They were fascinated by the activity and were mesmerised by the marble rolling around.

This week, we have also been talking about healthy eating and on Monday we made our own bread in Free Play. The children independently mixed the flour, water and yeast together to make the dough and then kneaded it with their hands. Once ready, they shaped the dough into balls, sticks and other shapes and placed them on a baking tray to cook. They were ready to eat by Snack Time and the children were very proud to eat their own cooking.
