Squirrels News - 25th November 2022

This week there have been a lot of coughs and colds going around so we have been talking a lot about how to make people better and who the children have to go to for help. To support our learning and group discussions we decided to set up the role play are as a doctor's surgery. The children loved helping their friends and teachers feel better but the real star patient was our class bear Bonnie. The children gave lots of love and care to Bonnie when she wasn't feeling very well and she is very grateful.

In other areas of the classroom we introduced new ways to build up the muscles in our hands through a range of different activities such as using garlic crushers to create spaghetti strings of playdough. We also had fun exploring properties by separating sand and stones using sieves.

In Maths we have been continuing to focus on our addition and counting skills with lots of activities around the classroom to promote this. One of the highlights of our week however was our tennis lesson where we practiced hitting a ball as it came towards us and we continued to have fun in our Outdoor Learning Environment where we explored musical instruments as well as hunting for hidden letters, shapes and numbers.

During our Outdoor Learning Day we continued our discussions and learning about emotions by making leaf puppets! One leaf in particular was sad as their friends were still on the tree but all the other leaf puppets made this sad leaf feel welcome and happy so that it was not sad anymore. What wonderful acts of friendship and kindness! We believe that this is a brilliant and important way of developing their resilience, curiosity, independence and understanding of the world around them!

All of the children were super excited at the end of this week as they took their first reading book home to share with their families.
