Kits News - 25th November 2022
This week the Kits have started to learn about Christmas and we have been busy preparing for our Nativity play at the end of term.
We have been engaging in small world play with the Nativity characters and reading the Nativity story during our Circle Times. The children are becoming familiar with the story and are quickly picking up the words to our Christmas songs.
During Maths we continued our Christmas focus by making Christmas trees with a range of shapes and it was lovely to hear some of the children discuss stories and experiences about their own Christmas trees at home.
We have been getting used to the cold weather and this week we have been exploring temperatures and freezing with the ice in the messy tray. We froze some of the toy sea creatures in the ice and the children used their critical thinking and problem-solving skills to release them. They used scoops and warm water to slowly melt the ice and their patience was rewarded when the sea creatures eventually became free!
During the week we have also had fun playing in our Outdoor Learning Environment, climbing on the climbing frame and making meals in the Mud Kitchen. On Wednesday we had a ‘Sand Café’ in the Outdoor Learning Environment where the children developed their imagination and social skills as they sat on the logs and pretended to share hot chocolates with their friends.
The children are becoming very involved in preparing the fruit at Snack Time and during our Cookery Focus Time we made delicious fruit kebabs. We talked about the different fruits and the children helped peel the satsumas and chop the kiwis. We introduced some new fruits to the children and they were fascinated with the physalis, carefully peeling back the leaves to see the fruit inside. We tasted all the ingredients and discussed which ones we liked and which ones we didn't before carefully threading them onto the kebab sticks.
