Squirrels News - 25th October 2024
We have had a wonderful Autumnal time in the Squirrels classroom this week. Our book of the week was The Leaf Thief and in the story we find out about a squirrel who is confused where all the leaves are disappearing to from his tree. He thinks the leaves are being stolen by the other animals until he realises it is Autumn. No one is stealing the leaves at all but they are in fact being carried away by the wind.
In our Circle Time conversations we discussed the various changes Autumn brings such as a change in weather and various animals going into hibernation. In Art we made pictures using leaves we had collected on our Outdoor Learning Day last week and we painted leaves to print and create our own Autumnal tree.
In Literacy we looked at various Autumnal items and identified their initial letter sound. We also segmented and blended CVC words. In Numeracy we ordered Autumnal items from smallest to biggest, which could be a little tricky when deciding where the items in between the smallest and biggest came in the sequence.
Whilst it has only been a short week at Nursery we have most definitely made the most of it. The children found bugs hidden amongst Autumnal leaves and made leaves out of playdough. The Squirrels also practised their pen grip, control and letter formation whilst writing letters to post in our Role Play ‘Post Office’ which went down a treat with the Squirrels who enjoyed reflecting on when we took our letters to the Post Office for our grandparents.
