Squirrels News - 26th January 2024

This week the Squirrels have embarked on week two of our Artists topic. We have been experimenting with acrylic paint, getting our hands dirty as we manipulated clay, as well as thinking about Dance routines, photography and props!

We were extremely lucky to have Taya De La Cruz who is one of our artists come in and visit us at the nursery. Her art is all about believing in ourselves and her latest collection is called ‘Skin Deep.’ One of her art pieces for example titled “True beauty is about being kind, caring and compassionate to yourself and others” and she began her talk by asking the children what they love about themselves. We had lots of amazing responses, including “I love my cheeks”, “I love my hands” “I love my hair” and “I love my tummy.” We then echoed this back to the children “we love your cheeks” etc. After this the children were allowed to look at Tanya’s artwork through a magnifying glass.

The children returned to Dew Drop Inn this week with the theme of art still firmly at the forefront. We acted out ‘Humpty Dumpty’ for the elderly then sat with them as we drew the various stages of the song. It was lots of fun and the Squirrels are enjoying getting to know the “big kids” as the Pensioners like to be called!

During our Outdoor Learning Day we continued to experiment with Dance in nature as we listened to the birds and the wind rushing by. As this week comes to a close, we are all very excited for the next when the children’s parents will get to come in for their Art exhibition.
