Kits News - 26th January 2024

The Kits had a wonderful week and we loved our topic book, Froggy Gets Dressed by Jonathan London. The book is about a frog who has to dress up in all his clothes for the cold weather but keeps getting them on in the wrong order! The children thought that the book was hilarious as Froggy kept getting it wrong and we talked about the different clothes we need to wear to keep us warm in these Winter months.

Developing the children’s independence in getting dressed is one of the aims for the Kits this term and it develops their confidence as well as fine motor skills as they negotiate different fastenings.

Our Role-Play Area has been set up as a ‘Shoe Shop’ and the children have been excited to buy and sell shoes to each other and try them on afterwards. They needed help at times from their teachers with some of the shoes, but the children are increasing in confidence and ability when putting their own shoes back on afterwards.

For one of our Focus Time activities this week we let the children express their own personal preferences in a big dressing up session. The children all chose different outfits to wear from the fancy dress and spare clothes and looked wonderful in their creations, developing their imaginations as they described themselves as ‘Princesses’ and ‘Aliens’. During the activity the children also developed their ICT skills as they used the iPad to take photos of each other dressed up in their outfits. The children shared the iPad well and also used it to scroll through the images afterwards, talking about the different images with their friends and teachers.

In Art this week we experimented at mark-making with different items of clothing such as socks filled with cotton wool. The activity supports the Kits develop their vocabulary as they described what they were doing and the textures they felt as well as providing them with method of mark-making.
