The children had a wonderful week exploring our book Max and the Tag-Along Moon by Floyd Cooper, in preparation for our upcoming Grandparents day celebrations at the end of the week. The book explores the relationship between Max and his Grandpa, and how the his Grandpa, like the moon will always be there for him even if they are not together.
In Art we created wonderful pieces containing a mixture of different mediums including collage, paint and photography. We took inspiration from our topic book for the theme of our pictures, which was the night sky and the children used their creativity to create a range of detailed artworks, drawing references from the book and including, the moon, stars and rockets!
In Literacy wrote sentences about our Grandparents and discussed all the activities we enjoy doing with them. In numeracy we thought about capacity and weight. The children loved learning about scales, discovering how they work and we all had great fun using water to understand the idea of capacity.
On our Outdoor Learning Day we focused on how we could create pictures using natural objects. We cleared a space on the ground before collecting four sticks to create a picture frame. Once our frame was ready, we looked for natural objects which would become various body pieces as we created pictures of us and our Grandparents. We focused on trying to add as much detail as possible and ripping or bending the fallen objects we had found to create the shapes we needed for our picture. The children all produced wonderful pieces of art and it was great to see them extending their imagination and creativity outside.
When Friday arrived everyone was very excited to welcome our Grandparents or special adults into the nursery. The children loved showing them around, engaging in the various play activities around the classroom and collaging a wonderful heart with their loved ones. Before long it was time to impress our special adults with our wonderful singing voices as Miss Leisa joined us for a sing song and at the end of the morning we were able to to share our book of the week and thank everyone for coming.
It was a wonderful week full of learning and precious memories for everyone.
