Squirrels News - 3rd March 2023

We have had a very exciting week, building up to World Book Day where the children have enjoyed talking about the different book characters they were going to be dressed up as. We also enjoyed sharing our favourite books with eachother throughout the week.

Our book of the week was Peace at Last by Jill Murphy and we had a great time recreating all the noises found in the book and repeating the repetitive lines. We then created our own characters to be in a class 'Peace at Last' book.

The children thought of some wonderful ideas such as a cat that couldn't sleep because of the fireworks, or a police officer who couldn't sleep because of a car siren. The children absolutely loved this book it was wonderful to observe the different characters and noises the children wanted to add to our own clarssroom version of the book.

Around the classroom we purchased books from the book shop Role Play, looked at identifying money, coloured in various book characters and explored different story sacks.

When the big day came everyone had tried very hard with their costumes and were extremely excited to show them off. The adults all had fun dressing up for the big occasion too! On the day we read lots of different books and also took part in a seed bomb making activity which we then took over to the common with us on Friday. The children used trowels to dig holes to place their seed bombs in before covering them with soil and then water. All of the children are becoming extremely invested in caring for our world, which is lovely to see.

What fun will next week hold? We shall have to wait and see!
