This week our Topic Book was called Maybe… by Chris Haughton. This book was all about a group of monkeys who are warned not to go down the tree where the mangos have fallen as there are tigers down there, but the monkeys decide not to listen. And they soon learns the importance of listening...
In light of our chosen topic book, we decided to transform the Role Play area into a jungle with all sorts of animals from snakes to gorillas. The children thoroughly enjoyed this theme and the animals have been up to all sorts of mischief. We witnessed a snake trying to eat our friendly spider, the tigers splashing around in the river and one morning the animals were all having a party together. This led to us looking at the story ‘Jungle Boogie’ where we had fun dancing like all the animals.
Later on in the week during Music the children created a jungle song with Miss Leisa where we thought about the various animals in the jungle and what they might be doing.
During Free Play the children loved using various herbs to concoct magical potions as they mixed whisked and poured their creations. This inspired us to revisit capacity and we set up an activity where the children used various receptacles and coloured water to make the containers full, empty, half full, almost full and almost empty. We also looked at the ½ symbol which led us to look at creating halves of various shapes.
On our Outdoor Learning Day on Friday we all had a brilliant time in the rain jumping in muddy puddles. All of the children were dressed for the weather and did not hold back when they were let loose in the puddles. It was a wonderfully happy day and highlighted how much fun we can have whatever the weather!
