Squirrels News - 7th March 2025
At 345 this week we have been busy preparing for World Book Day celebrations and in the spirit of this our Role Play area has been set up as a bookshop where the children have enjoyed browsing and purchasing lots of lovely books. The children even decided that the bookshop could incorporate a coffee shop so that the customers could drink coffee whilst they searched for a new favourite book. This was a great idea, everyone just had to be careful not to spill their drinks on any of the books!
Elsewhere in the classroom we have been making masks of our favourite characters such as a wolf, Aurora and a teddy bear. Everyone also created characters made out of paper, dressing them in various pieces of fabric and tissue paper before drawing their faces. This was lots of fun.
It was Pancake Day on Tuesday so we decided to have fruit and pancakes at Snack Time with toppings such as lemon, maple syrup and coconut sugar. They were delicious!
We have also practised writing names, explored 2D shapes and building puzzles.
At the start of the week we always share our Weekend News. However, this week instead of telling everyone our news we put the children into talking partners so that they could share their news with their partner. We then asked the children to recall their partner's news. This helped support the children’s speaking, waiting and listening skills as well us encouraging us to be respectful to others and concentrate on what they were saying.
In another Focus Time activity we thought about 'what happens next...?' We have been thinking about what could come next in any story after the book has finished. One of the children said that the characters "live happily ever after." So what does this look like? What do the characters do in their happily ever after because do we think many people would be happy doing the same thing again and again or doing nothing at all given the lack of detail happily ever after gives us. This concept could be a bit of a tricky thing to imagine but the children did fantastically. We had Goldilocks making porridge and apologising to the bears. The prince and princess getting jobs, royal babies being born and Goldilocks getting told off by her grandparents for trespassing to name but a few!
