Squirrels News - 9th June 2023

The Squirrels have got stuck straight into the new half term, preparing our unique races for Sports Day. We have chosen to recreate a René Magritte style of work, where each child in the nursery will have their photo taken in the replicated ‘Son of Man’ outfit and the Squirrels are creating pieces of fruit in art for them to place on their faces. The other piece we are creating are clothes for King Charles which takes inspiration from the ‘The Kings Pants’, In the race the children will run with various items of clothing to get the king dressed and ready for his royal duties. As if this didn’t keep us busy enough we have also started to practise the songs and lines for our Leavers Concert at the end of term.

In the Role Play Area the Sensory Garden has stayed up so the children can explore the sounds, smells, textures and sights a bit more with many of the children describing the space as “calming.”

During our visit to Dew Drop Inn we observed flowers and tried to replicate them in our still life drawings as well as conversing with the lovely pensioners we have made friends with.

Our Topic Book this week has been The Boy who Cried Wolf and it has encouraged us to think about the importance of telling the truth and what the consequences may be if we do not. Don’t worry, the little boy in our version did not get eaten (!) but no one believed him when there eventually was a wolf as he had lied so many times. We read this story again and thought that maybe we shouldn’t shout wolf whilst reading, too loudly on the common as it might frighten the people or the dogs! Once the story was over we set up a practise race, weaving in and out of cones and jumping in and out of hoops, to prepare for our obstacle race on Sports Day.
