Kits News - 10th June 2022
The Kits have had a great week back after the half term break and it has been wonderful to hear the children relay their holiday news and we have enjoyed hearing about the different jubilee celebrations they attended.
Our topic book this week has been The Fairytale Cake by Jonathan Langley and Mark Sperring. The children have loved looking at the fairy tale characters on the pages and have been singing a variety of different nursery rhymes. The little gingerbread man on each page has captured the children’s attention and with this in mind we decided to make sugar free gingerbread men during our Cookery Focus time on Thursday.
The Kits all helped measure and mix the butter, maple syrup, eggs, flour and ginger together in a bowl and then loved rolling, patting and squeezing the dough before cutting out the gingerbread men using the cutters. Once cut out, they added facial features and buttons with raisins and then placed them on the baking tray ready to cook. They smelt delicious while cooking and the children were very excited and proud to show their parents and carers at home time.
This week we have also been focusing on our listening skills through a range of fames such as musical bumps and musical statues in our Drama Focus Time on Monday. We also went for a ‘Listening Walk’ during our Community Walk on Friday where we gave the Kits the challenge of listening out for different sounds in their environment. During the walk we heard trains and cars and were lucky enough to hear some birds too! During our Communication and Language Focus Time we concentrated on listening further by playing different musical instruments and observing the different sounds each one made.
The children listened to their teacher’s instructions to stop and start playing the instruments as well as playing them loudly and quietly. With some of the older children we also started to repeat a simple rhythm and trying to copy what the teacher did before.
Our Dance lessons with Miss Jade continue to be popular with the children and they have loved exploring the range of props on offer as well as dancing to the different genres of Music. They have had the opportunity to wave long and short ribbons as well as wearing bunny ears and hats as they move in a variety of ways such as marching, running and jumping.
