Squirrels News - 17th June 2022
This week has been a buzz of excitement as we have been preparing for Sports day, our end of year show and getting very excited to welcome everyone’s Daddy’s in for ‘Bring Daddy to School Day’ at the end of the week.
To celebrate this event our book of the week has been Superhero Dad by Timothy Knapman. This book talks about some of the wonderful ways our Dads can be superheroes to us and we decided to add some of our own reasons too! The children decided their Daddy’s were superheroes for a number of reasons, which ranged from letting them use the iPad on a school day, taking them swimming to buying them lollypops!
To prepare for the special occasion we created Father’s day cards in Art. We reflected on our previous environmental topic and decided to incorporate the world into our card, which we marbled. The children loved observing the different effects of the marbling and once they were complete we used a finger-paint technique to add stars all around the world!
The children had great fun creating their cards and they were extremely excited to give them to their Daddy when the day finally arrived! It was wonderful to see all the Daddies in school as well as other members of the family if Daddy could not make it. The children loved showing them around the classroom, playing and reading together as well as creating crowns which we will use during our Sports day races! After all that excitement the morning was finished off with a sing-song for all the Daddies!
In other areas of our learning the Role Play area this week was a home corner which proved a big hit, given the glorious weather the children decided instead of eating indoors they would take the food out for a picnic! We practised reading CVC words during circle time, reminded ourselves of o’clock and focused on recognising numbers 11-15. It has been another wonderful week in squirrel class!
