Kits News - 17th June 2022
The Kits had a great week this week. Our topic book was Peck, Peck, Peck by Lucy Cousins and the week has been filled with animals and talking about our Daddies ahead of celebrating Fathers Day this Sunday.
Our role-play area has been set up as a ‘Rainforest’ and the children have been busy hunting for birds, insects and animals. The have loved sitting in the little hideout we made and they have been busy looking through the animal checklists, ticking off what they can find.
We have continued our search for animals in the Outdoor Learning Environment where we have spent time looking for real minibeasts and been busy watering the plants in the hot weather.
Throughout the week we have also been preparing for our ‘Bring Daddy to School Day’ which we celebrated on Friday. We talked about our Daddies during our Communication and Language Focus Time on Wednesday and discussed all the different things we like doing with them. The children were very enthusiastic to tell us about their Daddies and we loved hearing stories about parks, bikes, barbeques and pizzas!
During our ‘Bring Daddy to School Day’ on Friday the children all made crowns with their Daddies using a variety of different materials and stickers. After that they enjoyed showing them around their classroom and the Outdoor Learning Environment. The morning was finished off with a Music session with Miss Leisa where we sung some of our favourite songs including one about our Daddies!
As well as learning about animals and preparing for ‘Bring Daddy to School Day’ the children made orange and lemon juice during our Cookery Focus Time. They strengthened their hand muscles as they pushed the orange and lemon halves down onto the juicer and watched as the juice flowed into the jug below. They loved drinking the orange juice and, as well as hydrating them on a hot day, it developed their independence in self-care as they drank from a cup without spilling. The lemon juice was also drunk with great enthusiasm and the children laughed and pulled funny faces at its sour taste, describing it as ‘yucky!’
