Kits News - 24th June 2022

The Kits have had a very exciting week and the highlight has definitely been our Sports Day on Wandsworth Common on Thursday!

All the children did exceptionally well and we were very impressed with everyone and especially with the younger Kits who ran very fast and all listened for the ‘Go!” before starting. They took part in a running race, potato and spoon race, bean bag throw and hat race before competing in the relay races at the end.

During the relay races it was wonderful to see the whole school running together and completing large boards displaying London landmarks, Picasso faces and growing flowers. We also tidied up the common and learnt how to be environmentally friendly in our ‘litter picking’ race. During this race the children all had to pick up a piece of rubbish and put it in the bin before running to the finish line. We also loved watching the parent races and the best part was the medals and fruit lollipops at the end!

Apart from Sports Day we have loved making the most of the warm weather in our Outdoor Learning Environment. We have facilitated a number of mark-making activities outside and the children have spent time drawing on the table in the shade and making their own hopscotches. The most fun however was when we drew around ourselves and our shadows on the floor!

We have made sure to keep cool by playing with the water and also looking after our garden in the hot weather by remembering to water the plants. The plants have been growing amazingly well in their pots and the children have all taken an interest in them, naming their colours, feeling their petals and smelling their scents.

Back in the classroom our role-play area has been set up as a ‘Dinosaur Cave’ and the children have been busy learning the names of the different dinosaurs and we have discussed where they would have lived and what they would have eaten. The children also loved creating cave drawings on the paper on the walls and this has helped to develop their gross motor skills as they lift their arms as well as their fine motor skills as they make smaller marks on the paper.
