Kits News - 10th May 2024

The Kits have had a wonderful week exploring our topic book From Head to Toe by Eric Carle. The book is all about listening to and following instructions and moving our bodies in different ways as we keep active. We have been dancing to action songs throughout the week and playing games such as ‘Simon Says’. We have also been using our gross motor skills in Art as we made pictures by using movements such as rolling balls back and forth on a tray.

Our highlight of the week was embarking on our annual trip to Tooting Fire Station! The bus journey there was great fun and we were very excited to take the 249 to Tooting Bec. The children were good at listening to their teachers’ instructions to climb onto the big seats and to hold onto the pole tight.

The ‘Green Watch' Fire Fighters were amazing with the children and we loved seeing all their equipment which we learnt about in our Focus Time during the week. We heard the Fire Engine siren (which was very loud!) and looked at equipment such as the infra-red camera and the different size hoses.

We also tried on the fire fighter's helmets, which were very heavy! The best part of the trip however was definitely was the chance to squirt water from the fire hose. The children helped the fire fighter to pull the leaver on the hose and watched as water sprayed all over the forecourt, knocking over two plastic chairs!

After we left the fire station we had a lovely drink and snack on the shady grass by the church opposite the fire station and then we had a leisurely walk back to the bus stop and this time took the 155 back to Balham. It was a wonderful day and we are very proud of how well all the children behaved. Well done Kits, it was a big adventure for you!
