Kits News - 13th October 2023
The Kits had a marvellous week and this week our topic book was Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
On Tuesday we celebrated ‘World Porridge Day’ and the children had a sponsored ‘Porridge Party’ to raise money for ‘Mary’s Meals’. Mary's Meals is a registered charity which sets up school feeding programmes in some of the world's poorest communities, where hunger and poverty prevent children from gaining an education. For our ‘Porridge Party’ all the children helped cut and chop a selection of fresh fruit and then placed it on top of their porridge to make a smiley face. We all loved eating our porridge together and talked at our tables about our own breakfasts, what we have on porridge at home and how we can help others who don’t have as much food as us.
Our Role-Play Area this week was set up as the ‘Three Bears Cottage’ and the children have been busy talking about the story as they fed the bears porridge which was either too hot, too cold or just right! In Art we made our own bear faces and we started the project by painting using forks. Later in the week we added fur, ears and eyes and everyone was very proud of their finished pictures.
Throughout the week we have been discussing the Goldilocks and the Three Bears story and retelling it with our teachers and friends. At Circle Times we have been wearing bear and Goldilocks masks and taking turns with the props from our ‘Story Basket’ such as chairs, beds and bowls. We have also been learning about size and matching the different sized beds, chairs and bowls with the bears as we discussed big, small and medium.
We also continued to explore mark -making as we made bear footprints with potatoes and the children developed their gross motor skills as they stamped the potatoes up and down on the paper.
