Squirrels News - 13th October 2023
Our week started with a trip to our local library to meet the new librarian. We were very lucky as she read us two stories this week! We loved listening to the the stories before heading off to choose our own books to borrow. Everyone was asked to give a reason why they had chosen that particular book with answers such as "it's my favourite”, “I have it at home" and " I like animals."
Back in the classroom we discussed and wrote our Weekend News which was heavily based around a member of the class's birthday party. This discussion also led to some good insights into different emotions with some children saying they loved the balloons and others saying they were scared of them going “pop”.
Our book this week was That's My Porridge where Little Bear tried to find out who had taken his porridge. We loved meeting various nursery characters along the way who joined him on his journey. In our Art project this week the children created masks of various characters in the story. We also had a great time celebrating World Porridge Day and raising money for the charity Mary’s Meals. We created porridge emotion faces using fresh fruit which we carefully cut before placing onto our porridge.
At the end of the week it was time for our Outdoor Learning Day. We had a little drizzle on the way which was perfect for our chosen lesson activity which was all about getting messy! Many of the children do not like getting their hands messy so we decided to gather leaves which were wet and covered in mud to throw into the air. We had great fun and everyone (some with a little coaxing) got muddy hands. Yay!
