Kits News - 16th September 2022

The Kits have had a great week this week. Our topic book was ‘Kindness Rules’ by Eunice and Sabrina Moyle and it has been a great platform to help teach the children our Classroom Principles of ‘Gentle Hands’, ‘Kind Hearts’, ‘Listening Ears’, ‘Walking Feet’ and ‘Taking Turns’.

We have integrated the Classroom principles into our learning and the different activities throughout the week and started the week by making salt dough ‘Gentle Hands’ in Art. The children began by helping to measure the ingredients before mixing them together to make the dough. We used this as an opportunity to explore textures and the children described how the dough felt, as they pressed their hands into it to make hand prints.

We have been taking turns with the toys throughout the week and the children are being shown how they can use the sand timer to help them do this. In the mark making area we drew around our feet and as we talked about why we need to use our ‘Walking Feet’ in the classroom and we played a listening game and made ‘Listening Ears’ during our Communication and Language Focus Time on Wednesday.

On Friday we talked about ‘Kind Hearts’ and refined our fine motor skills at the same time by using our fingers to tear paper into small pieces. Once all the paper was torn up, we used glue to stick the pieces on cut-out heart shapes. We discussed the different ways we can use our ‘Kind Hearts’ and talked about the importance of looking after and respecting each other.

The children had a lot of fun in our Cookery Focus Time this week where we made banana, orange and oat bites. The children all strengthened their hand muscles as they chopped the banana with the plastic knives and then used the orange squeezer to squeeze the orange. Everyone was excited to be able to try the orange juice and we described what it tasted like, offering the children an opportunity to share their likes and dislikes. They loved using the wooden spoon to stir the mixture around and then we got our hands messy as we rolled the mixture together into balls ready to cook. They smelt delicious while they cooking and we loved sharing them out and eating them together at snack time the next day.

The children have continued exploring our Outdoor Learning Environment throughout the week and it is a pleasure to observe the youngest Kits slowly become more confident on the climbing frame. Well done Kits!
