Squirrels News - 9th September
We have had a wonderful first few days back at nursery, welcoming the children and hearing all about their summer holidays. Even though it was only a three-day week, we have been very busy and have loved hearing about everyone’s adventures!
The new Squirrels have been very excited to explore their new classroom and have been particularly interested in the class fish ‘Bubbles ‘and ‘Tango’ who have definitely been the stars of the class this week!
Around the classroom we have renewed our learning and development with a range of exciting activities. We explored letters as we fished for letter crabs, worked on number numeral correspondence and have been practicing our writing skills. In Free Play the children have enjoyed building using Duplo, exploring different textures, getting imaginative down on the farm and having a wonderful time using their imagination in our role play area which was set up as an airport. This also offered a great way for the children to combine their own experiences and imagination to re-enact holidays and travel adventures.
In the Outdoor Learning Environment, the children expanded their creativity by baking a range of delicious cakes using sand and natural materials and developed their gross motor skills and balance using the balancing beams.
The new Squirrels were particularly excited to start learning Spanish with Miss Ali, which began with a very important question: “What is Spanish?” The other highlight of our week was taking part in our first Outdoor Learning Day of the term. We recapped the rules of holding onto the rope and making sure to use our ‘walking feet’ and ‘listening ears’. We were so impressed with the children who were all so well behaved and walked beautifully to the common which was around a 30-minute walk.
This week we focused on safety rules and exploring the area. The children had fun climbing on trees, building a crown and a fire using sticks and we finished the morning by enjoying Snack Time in the outdoors. The fresh air and walking definitely tired the Squirrels out but we had a brief stop on the way back to nursery to listen to the church bells in memory of Queen Elizabeth II.
It has been a lovely first week back and we look forward to what next week will bring!
