Kits News - 24th November 2023
The Kits have had a wonderful week learning about Christmas and practising the songs for our upcoming Nativity Play. We have explored a range of Christmas activities to get us into the Christmas spirit such as refining our fine-motor skills as we’ve stuck stars on paper and pushed pom-poms into the gaps in pinecones.
The children have also been very excited to play in our Role-Play Area which was set up as a ‘Shoe Shop’ for the week. Developing the children’s independence in their heath and self-care develops their confidence, self-esteem and prepares them for school as they are able to dress themselves. Having the Role-Play Area set up as a ‘Shoe Shop’ gave them the opportunity to practise taking different shoes off and putting them back on again and enabled them to express themselves as they choose their favourite shoes, with the pink crocs and sparkly wellies being particularly popular!
While playing the children have been developing their friendships as they buy and sell the shoes to each other and the activity enabled them to practise sharing as they took turns wearing the different shoes.
The Kits have continued to help look after our class pet ‘Mr Hamster’, and this week they helped clean out his cage. They were all very helpful in doing this and each had a turn to wipe the cage clean, break up the new sawdust and top up his water and food bowl. We talked about how to look after pets and what they need and the children were very excited to tell their teachers about their own pets at home. The biggest responsibility when cleaning out ‘Mr Hamster’s’ cage is holding onto Mr Hamster himself in his ball while his cage is being cleaned. The children were very sensible while doing this and carefully held the pink ball and inquisitively watched the hamster inside, often giggling and talking to each other about its movements.
