Kits News - 26th May 2023
The Kits had a great last week of the half term this week and it has been a very exciting week too! This week we have engaged in the charity event ‘Paw Patrol on a Stroll’ to raise money for the ‘Dogs Trust’.
Dogs Trust, known until 2003 as the National Canine Defence League, is a British animal welfare charity and humane society which specialises in the well-being of dogs. The children engaged in a sponsored walk on Wednesday where they walked around the local area and kept an eye out for their favourite Paw Patrol friends who were lurking in the bushes and on the front walls of Balham!
We would like to thank everyone for the money they raised and we were all very impressed at how far the children walked. We have been learning about how to care for dogs throughout the week and on Thursday we were very excited to have some real dogs come and visit nursery! ‘Fred’ and ‘Florence’ from Therapy Dogs Nationwide came with their owners to the Nursery and we were very lucky to be able to give them a gentle stroke and learn about to care for dogs and how we must always ask their owners first if we want to stroke them. This was an amazing opportunity for those children who don’t have pets at home to be up close to an animal and we loved hearing the children’s thoughts on the dogs including describing how they felt using words such as ‘Fluffy’ and ‘Soft’.
Our topic book to accompany our dog theme was ‘Oi Dog!’ by Claire and Kes Gray and we have also been spending time this week exploring rhyming words. During our Circle Times we looked at the rhyming pot of things which rhyme with dog and the children laughed as we made us silly rhymes about dogs, logs and clogs.
