Kits News - 5th May 2023

The Kits had a wonderful week and we thoroughly enjoyed learning about the upcoming Coronation. We had two topic books to help us learn about the subject, The Kings Pants by Nicholas Allan and The King’s Coronation by Campbell London. The children have been thoroughly engaged in the topic and very excited to tell us about their own upcoming Coronation celebrations.

The highlight of the week was our ‘Teddy Bear’s Tea Party’ on Thursday where we invited our teddies from home. The week was full of preparation for the event and our first task was to make Union Jack flags to stick on the invites for our teddies. The children looked at the real flag and then stuck red strips and blue triangles on their paper to replicate it. We had some very accurate representations and some more abstract versions too, all of which looked wonderful.

We made crowns in Art and decorated them with gold paint and sequins to represent royal jewels. We developed our fine motor skills as we stuck stickers on crowns drawn on the table and had imaginary tea parties in the Role Play Area which was set up as a ‘Royal Kitchen’, complete with Union Jack plates and bunting.

On Wednesday we prepared for the party by making banana cupcakes. The children helped measure and mix the different ingredients and strengthened their hand muscles as they used a fork to mash the banana. They spooned the mixture into the cake cases and we were all very excited to eat them at the Tea Party the next day.

Before the Tea Party we also had Music with Miss Leisa and played some of our favourite party games such as musical statues and musical bumps. It was a wonderful week and we look forward to hearing about everyone’s Coronation weekend on Tuesday.
