Squirrels News - 28th April 2023

We have been incredibly excited to welcome everyone back after the Easter break. Our holiday news was very exciting this week as we heard about people going to Cornwall, skiing in Austria, playing in the park and having a great time constructing at home with various family members.

We have enjoyed learning about ‘Our Body Bubble’ which is also the title of this week’s topic book and this has encouraged us to look at our own personal space. It has also opened up discussion around how we can appropriately enter somebody else’s body bubble. This has been linked to our Role Play area which has been set up as a doctor’s surgery. The children have had lots of fun looking after their patients and trying to make them feel better. It has also been great way to encourage new vocabulary with the children and to discuss times they have been to the doctors or had an injection.

In our Maths Focus Time we have been thinking about positional language, particularly focusing on left and right as well as writing numbers. In Dance we went on a wonderful space adventure, chasing aliens and jumping over craters before jumping in our spaceship to head back down to earth.

During our Outdoor Learning Environment we went looking for inspiration from our surroundings to take photos of things which bring us joy. We also thought about why the things we chose to photograph made us happy. The children looked at various flowers, commenting that they liked the colour or the shape and identified the natural landscape changes through the seasons. We also created giant bubbles with a big bubble wand as we recapped the learning of our body bubble and how it is our own private space.
