Kits News - 7th June 2024

The Kits had a great first week back after the half term and we loved hearing about the children’s holiday news. This week we have been busy preparing for our Sports Day and our topic book was Busy Sports Day by Campbell Books. We have been talking to the children about the different races and how they will be watched by their friends and families on Wandsworth Common. The children have enjoyed painting and sticking as they prepare our Sports Day relay races in Art and we are very excited for the big day in a couple of weeks time.

We have been bringing Sports into our Focus Time activities and during our Maths Focus Time we practised counting one object at a time as we counted medals. The children were very excited to see them and we discussed how they may all get one after participating in Sports Day.

During our Communication and Language Focus Time we developed the children’s vocabulary as we looked at different sporting equipment. The children were fascinated to see the hockey sticks, rackets and different balls and we talked about what the equipment was used for and the names of the different sports.

During our Cookery Focus Time we made a delicious healthy fruit salad. We talked to the children about colours, textures and tastes as we explored the different fruits and everyone discussed which ones were their favourite. The children developed their hand strength as they used knives to chop the different fruits and placed them in a pot to make a fruit salad. We also discussed healthy eating and how fruit is full of vitamins and minerals which keep our bodies fit and healthy. We linked being healthy back to our Sports Day and discussed how it also keeps our bodies healthy to be fit and active
