Squirrels News - 14th June 2024

This week our topic book was called That’s My Daddy by Ruth Redford. This is a wonderful modern book about family life asking questions such as “Does Daddy help with dishes, wash the bath or cook breakfast? Does daddy work in an office, with animals or does he stay at home and look after the children?” Everyone had a great time going through our book of the week with the children all sharing things their Daddies do or do not do such as“My daddy doesn’t wash up” and “My daddy cooks meatballs.”

In our Literacy Focus Time we discussed our Daddies, conversing with each other to learn about our Daddies similarities and differences. It was lovely to hear the children talk about their Daddies; “My Daddy gives the best hugs.” In other Focus Times this week we have been looking at the differences between a pentagon and an octagon. This week we visited the post office in our Role Play Area, sending letters and parcels around the class and further afield which was very exciting for everyone.

On Friday we had a wonderful time as we welcomed the Daddies into school. Everyone was very excited to show their Daddy around the classroom and to play with them. They built with the Lego and raced the cars as well as colouring pictures before decorating their animal masks for Sports Day. We sang to our Daddies before saying goodbye as we headed off to the common for our snack and small Sports Day practice to end the week.
