Kits News - March 25th 2022

The Kits have had a great last week of term and we have loved getting into the Easter spirit!

We held our annual Easter Bonnet Parade on Tuesday, and the children were very proud to walk down the road and wave to their parents wearing the wonderful bonnets they had created the week before. After parading past the parents, the children also walked back through the ‘Pensioners’ Lounge’ on their way back into the building where they loved showing their hats to the pensioners and listening to them sing songs.

We love engaging the community around us and taking part in activities with the pensioners is a great way to develop the children’s experiences and develop their confidence and understanding of the world and communities around them.

The weather has been warmer this week and both the staff and children have embraced the opportunity to play with the water in the Outdoor Learning Environment. The children have developed their hand strength as they have been pouring, scooping, funnelling and squeezing water and they have shared the resources with the support of the sand timer.

In our Science Focus Time this week we extended our water play further through experimenting with sinking and floating. The children developed their critical thinking as they predicted whether the objects would sink or float and then put their theories to the test by observing what happened when thy placed them in the water. It was a great opportunity to explore the different properties of the materials and extend the children’s communication and language skills by introducing them to new language.

The highlight of week however was our Easter egg hunt in the nursery on the last day of term! The children all listened carefully to their teachers’ instructions and developed their gross motor skills as they searched the climbing frame and Outdoor Learning Environment for eggs hidden up high, down low and behind objects. The children worked as a team to find all the eggs. Once all the eggs were found, we counted them and discussed their colours before ‘The Easter Bunny’ hid them again for another go!
