Squirrels News - 12th May 2023
We have been very excited in the Squirrel classroom to have started our Artists topic which runs for three weeks. This week we have been focusing on Rene Margarite and Henry Moore. The children have enjoyed moulding clay into various shapes, enjoying its texture when wet and dry as well as using watercolours to develop magnificent artworks. The children looked very carefully at the original pieces of art as they tried to recreate them.
On our Outdoor Learning Day we used natural objects with ink to print on top of our bark rubbings. The children had a wonderful time doing this before playing running games, mark-making with sticks and climbing trees. On our way to the common we looked for 3D shapes as we tried to recall their names, which has been a big focus for us this week aside from the various artists we have been looking at.
Around the classroom we have been practising writing our names and developing the muscles in our hands as we squeezed playdough through a garlic crusher. Our Role Play area has been set up as an ‘Artist’s Studio’ where we have explored pastels, chalk, watercolours and paints. Everyone has been getting very creative in the studio as our artistic juices have been flowing.
In Dance this week we went on a wonderful underwater adventure, finding a starfish, octopus and dolphin before we had to quickly escape from a shark! In Sports we practised for the egg and potato race as well as practising our cricket skills! What a wonderful week we have had and we can not wait to celebrate more artists next week.
