Squirrels News - 13th September 2024
This week we have been welcoming the new class of Squirrels who have moved up from the Kits and it has been wonderful to see how quickly they have been settling in. We started the week by recapping our classroom principles, as well as discovering our way around our new environment and exploring our new routine.
We also enjoyed sharing our holiday news, and loved re-enacting scenes from the summer in our airport Role Play area. The children used this set up to visit all kinds of places from the jungle to the beach and beyond.
The first topic book of our new academic year has been Our Class is a family by Shannon Olsen. This book discusses the fact that we spend a lot of our week in school and that families can be made up of people you are closest to and not just those who you are related to. All of the children painted a self portrait in Art to display on our class family board. The children have also been excited by the fact they get activity books this year and we have been writing our name on them so we know whose is whose. All of the children tried exceptionally hard during this activity.
At the end of the week the big day finally came for the new Squirrels first Outdoor Learning Day. We were all excited and by the end of the day the teachers were very impressed with the children. Despite a 30 minute walk there and back there were no sore feet or tired children and we had a wonderful time introducing the rules of outdoor learning, developing our ball skills and we had our first go at climbing the tree located in the area we use. For some it was the first time they have ever climbed a tree.
What a great first week Squirrels we look forward to the new academic year ahead and all the exciting fun and opportunities it will bring our way.
