This week we chose the book Who's Been Eating MY Porridge? by Nick Ward to coincide with our World Porridge Day celebrations. We had great fun with this story as it introduced lots of different characters which the children were familiar with, such as Jack from 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. In the story the characters go on a journey to find the porridge monster who had stolen Little Bear’s porridge.

It turns out however that it was Goldilocks who had taken the porridge as a way to invite all of her friends to a porridge party! Having read the book we then had our own Porridge Party where we raised money for Mary's Meals, a charity which makes sure children around the world receive a healthy meal. The children decorated their porridge using fresh fruit to make faces. We discussed what emotions we were feeling and everyone loved eating the porridge at the end!

In other areas of our learning we looked at quantity, numeral correspondents as well as continuing our learning about feelings and discussing why we feel certain ways.

We have also been thinking about the importance of staying healthy and developing our self care skills. We set up a dinosaur teeth brushing station where the children were able to practice brushing the dinosaur’s teeth and we spoke about how we can look after our teeth. l

In Science we continued our focus on hygiene and self care by demonstrating what happens when we use soap to wash our hands. We conducted an experiment using water, pepper and soap and asked the children to predict what they thought might happen. Everyone was fascinated by this experiment and we observed that when we didn't use soap the paper stuck to our fingers but when we did the pepper moved away from our fingers.

At the end of the week we went on our Outdoor Learning Day and painted using natural paint which we made from petals, mud and grass. It was a wonderful learning experience to know that we can be so resourceful with nature.

Next week we will be celebrating Diwali and we can’t wait!
