Squirrels News - 18th October 2024
Whilst it may have been a wet start to the week in the Squirrel classroom, Monday gave us plenty of sunshine as we went camping in our new Role Play area. The children loved the tent and all week had a wonderful time going on various adventures. The children enjoyed looking at books depicting various wildlife in the UK and some chose to go a little further afield, venturing off to places like Africa!
Our book of the week was Counting Lions which looks at numbers one to ten with a different corresponding number of animals on each page. The various animals were also described with beautiful poetry and the children loved looking at the beautifully hand drawn pictures. In Literacy the children thought of adjectives to describe the various animals then picked one animal to write a sentence about, where the children focused on their pen grip and control.
In Spanish the children started learning about various fruits and emotions through song, dance and actions. The Squirrels love Spanish and look forward to it every week. In Sport we have been developing our coordination skills and turn taking whilst in Dance we are developing our pointy toes, speed and the movements we are able to make with our body whilst staying focused and following instructions.
On our Outdoor Learning Day we stopped outside various shop fronts to find an array of letters as we identified their sounds. There were letters everywhere! We were also thinking about different trees, plants and their leaves. We looked at and found various shapes of leaves, long, short, spikey and round. We also noticed some of the leaves were changing colour due to the change in season. We made sure to collect some of these leaves to bring back to nursery for our Art project next week. I wonder what we will be making with them…!
