This week our topic book was Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper. The children loved this book and enjoyed the different themes which included letting people have a go at different things, learning to compromise and our feelings.
We took inspiration from the book this week and the children loved making their own versions of pumpkin soup, using objects around the classroom as well as making the soup even more exciting by adding various ingredients from our Role Play supermarket. The children absolutely loved the supermarket Role Play where they collected all sorts of goodies to make wonderful pasta dishes, pancakes and cakes.
Over on the Art table we developed our cutting skills by cutting the ingredients we wanted to put into our 3D collaged soup. In Focus Times this week we have been thinking about the colours we use when drawing to make sure it is representative of what we are drawing.
In Maths we have been focusing on finding certain numbers of objects such as 4 apples and 6 leaves and in Circle Time we have been busy practising for our Harvest festival which we celebrated on Friday The children performed amazingly and we are so proud of their singing!
Outdoor Learning was a little different due to the Harvest Festival but still very exciting. Next week we will have a cafe Role Play so we went looking at some of the cafes around Balham and Tooting. We were lucky enough to get to go into one and enjoyed observing the seating area, the menu, the cakes on the display and the types of foods the cafe served. On discovering that many cafés sell smoothies, the children asked if we could have real smoothies for our cafe so we have decided to go to the supermarket next week to get the healthy ingredients to make a little smoothie we can have alongside our fruit and rice cake at Snack Time!
The children had fun spotting cafes and exploring the supermarket which was also our Role Play set up this week. We then sat on the benches by Sainsbury’s to have our snack under the trees. The sun was shining, there was music playing and it felt like we were on European city break! The children loved spotting letters outside Sainsbury’s which could be found in their names and finally after snack we headed back to nursery for a run around in the garden before Home Time.
