Squirrels News - 8th December 2023
This week we have been in full Christmas swing, preparing for the end of term and all the upcoming festive celebrations. The children have been adding the final touches to the wonderful Christmas gifts they have made for their family and they are very excited to take them home at the end of term.
In Art we have also been creating the final touches to accompany our Nativity staging. Not long to go now! In Focus Time we have been exploring addition, what this means and how it works. To accompany this we have been discussing the equals and plus signs. During other Focus sessions we have revisited positional language and are continuing to develop our phonics knowledge.
Outside we have been exploring mud in the Mud Kitchen and the children have been busy cooking up wonderful creations such as an ice cream plant. How yummy would that be! The children have also continued their focus on addition, by adding quantities together whilst rolling natural objects down the guttering and developing our throwing and catching skills.
For our final Outdoor Learning Day of the year we had a truly wonderful day over on the common. We started the morning with a snack of hot chocolate and gingerbread people. We then decorated the trees, developing our fine motor skills as we did so by pegging up the leaves. As we were decorating, we danced to Christmas music before getting the parachute out as we hoisted Santa into the air. As he was feeling a little bit sick from all the flying up in the air, we decided that it would be a good idea to play hide and seek with Santa instead. Sometimes he hid in some rather tricky places and when we still hadn’t found him and it was time to leave a few of the children were becoming a little bit concerned that we may have lost him. Fortunately, Santa was hiding in my hood!
